Day 1 - No TV

Day 1 - 15st 9lbs

Got up at 7 am this morning - don't usually get up until 8 am (as it's only a 10 min drive to work) and 9 am at weekends. Don't need to get up an hour earlier until Saturday but I've already done it! I'll still need to do it Saturday too though to stick with the rule book

Had a shower and washed my hair after getting on the scales to see what my starting weight was. Really no surprise there as shower and scales are my daily routine - I'm a regular on those scales testing wether they will one day stop shouting gerroff!!!!!!! I am 12lbs lighter than I was this time last year (16st 7lbs at my heaviest) but, as I've been going to a rather famous fat (sorry slimming!) class for quite some time this is really not that great. However, as the No Diet Diet book says - slimming classes are great ways of keeping you fat and now is the time to embrace something different (o:

Did my body brushing - something that I should do every day to help control the lymphoedema in my left arm but I confess that I haven't done it for quite a while. Don't know why I stopped because it only takes a few minutes but I suppose it just goes to show that you can lose new habits almost as quickly as you learn new ones. My arm has been a little more swollen of late so starting this again should show results here too.

It's only 7.15 am and I've already done two things differently!

Had cereal for breakfast - something I don't usually do. I don't generally eat until around lunch time, and sometimes even miss that.

I rarely put the TV on in the morning - only sometimes if I've got up exceptionally early and want to sit with a cup of coffee and catch up on the news. However, this morning I mustn't put the TV on at all so instead I wash the breakfast pots and potter around tidying up. I put some boxes of stuff in my car to take to the Age Concern charity shop that have been under the stairs for months - wow can't believe I've actually gotten round to doing that at last !!! I also checked some emails and did some bits of planning for work before I went in - it's always busy when we've been off for bank holiday but checking my emails first meant that I know more about what to expect before I get there.

Dried my hair - HAVE to tame the mane otherwise I look like I've been dragged through a hedge backwards. Then also put on some mascara. Don't do this often enough - and again don't really know why as it only takes a couple of minutes. I don't have great eyelashes and my eyes always look much better when I put mascara on. I used to wear mascara and eyeshadow every day for work (and make more of an effort with foundation, blusher etc if I'm going out anywhere) but gave up on that years ago. Haven't bothered with the eyeshadow today but I do feel better with the mascara on and will try and do this every day from now on.

Then trogged off to work feeling quite positive.

9pm - Didn't manage the No TV bit today. Noel invited friend Rachel for tea so I cooked a nice curry but then we all ended up in the room watching the Department Store documentary about Peters in Huddersfield. We had a great laugh watching it - particularly as it's local and we know people who shop there including Rachel's mum.

I was going to go see Claire's garden as they have spent the weekend doing it up but it was too late to go up when Rachel left so I'll pop up tomorrow. I WILL do the no TV bit at some point this week (probably tomorrow) but I don't feel too bad about not managing it as I've already done most of the other things that were on my plan for this week.

All in all I think I've done well today and already planning the things I need to do to keep on track. I've made a very positive start and I'm ready for tomorrow! (o:

Getting Started - My very first Blog

The No Diet Diet book is about changing habits, trying new things and new ways of thinking. It is NOT about dieting, but promises that if you follow the steps you WILL lose weight! I read the book in a couple of hours and I agree with all it advocates - however, will I be able to put it into practice - time (and this blog) will tell!!!!

Started off with an exercise to see if I'm ready to make some changes and it appears that I am. What follows is then a series of steps to be followed which should change habits and patterns of thought over at least the next 28 days. It also reckons that following this plan - and not thinking about calories, carbohydrates, points, sins etc etc (yes you can see I've been there and done em all!) that I'll lose around 2lbs per week. It encourages you to do something different each day - things you might not normally do (or just doing them differently) and even things you would perhaps never even have thought of doing in the first place.

My assigned tasks for this week are:

Tuesday - No TV
Wednesday - Write something for at least 15 minutes
Thursday - give up your favourite or regular drink all day
Friday - take a 15 minute walk
Saturday - get up at least one hour earlier than usual
Sunday - list what I want to achieve by this time next year and how I will get there
Monday - Do a good natured deed for someone else - a random act of kindness and don't ask for any recognition for doing it

In addition I have to do another two tasks at some point during the week from a list that was given and these are:

To write a story
To make a picture

Well - I've already made a start on the write a story. I've set up this blog and over the next month or so this will be my story - my no diet diet story (o:
